2020 WTF? Seriously? I guess I’ll try again tomorrow.

my 2020 resolution
I thought to myself, I don’t need to make any big new year’s resolutions…. I just want to get a tiny bit more structure into my morning. Now that the baby is one, she’s not nursing anymore, sleeping through the night, maybe it’s time to get back to my morning routine. You know, BASIC things like drinking coffee and washing my face.
Last year was wonderful, truly. Want proof? Read My Last Decade: 10 Accomplishments, 3 Regrets Here. But you know, having an infant and a 2 year old doesn’t allow for a lot of routine. So, I promised myself for the month of January, I would wake up a tiny bit earlier and take care of myself and take our dog on a little walk before the babies get up. I said that if I walked the dog every day of January, I’d get myself a pair of new Sorel boots and I freaking love shoes. I did it for ONE morning and then THIS happened…
then this happened
On New Year”s Day, I sliced my foot open from left to right. And no, I was completely sober. Just slipped doing something really cool…. I can’t think up a good lie right now, so you’ll just have to take it for what it is. As I was crying my eyes out on the basement floor, I kept thinking WTF? Seriously? How is this happening to me? What about my boots?
Here we are, almost a week later and I still haven’t walked the dog. I was on crutches until today. Has anyone else already failed at their new year’s resolution? I know it’s not just me. Change is hard, whether an injury gets in your way or life itself. As parents, we’re no strangers to challenge. So here’s my new 2020 challenge: Let go of what you can’t change, and change what you can.
now what?
I’m taking the dog for a walk tomorrow, even if it hurts. What can you do tomorrow to work towards those promises you made yourself? Leave a note in the comments! Thanks for your encouragement along this journey.
By the way… if you can walk, you can hike! Check out our latest Winter Hike Suggestions Here.
