5 Safe Ways to Support Local Business (Even While Staying Home)
Written By COLORADO with KIDS
Covid-19 and Local Businesses
COVID-19 is throwing a wrench in everyone’s plans and small business owners are getting worried. Many local families are choosing to stay home in hopes of not getting the virus and hopefully to help reduce the community spread we are starting to see in Colorado (according to Governor Polis on 3/13). Many are cooking at home or spending time outdoors instead of visiting our local businesses.
But collectively this has a huge negative impact on our local restaurants, shops and entertainment venues. It is our job as citizens to support our neighbors and even financially invest in the local businesses that mean the most to us and our families.
Here’s 5 impactful ways you can support local businesses (even from home)!
1. Order delivery or takeout from a local restaurant
Rest assured that your favorite local restaurant has always had strict sanitation policies in place that protect patrons. Timid about going out? Order your family meal to-go or have it delivered to your doorstep! Many restaurants are offering to-go specials or heat at home options for this purpose. Don’t forget to tip like you would if you were dinning in!
2. Purchase Products Online
Many of our local shops and salons have an online presence as well, where you can still get your favorite products and support stores you typically visit in person. So now that you’ve got toilet paper, stock up on your favorite local products.
3. Buy Gift Cards
Consider a gift card an interest free loan to your favorite shop or restaurant. Cash flow could be a considerable challenge to many small businesses if residents limit their normal in town activities. Purchasing gift cards is a fabulous way to invest in the businesses that are a regular part of your life.

4. Purchase Digital Services
Not all of our local businesses sell products, many service providers offer online packages or can alter current packages for online delivery. Local landscape designers, consultants, tax providers as an example can all offer services to their clients through a digital platform.
5. Write a Review and share on social
Oftentimes we are too busy to write a five-star review for our favorite places. But for me, reviews make a big impact on selecting a new restaurant or salon, so go ahead and tell the world how great a business it is!
PS. Please don’t cancel your yoga and gym memberships. This is all temporary and those businesses rely on memberships to pay rent and their staff.
