REVIEW
Parking in this trailhead can be a bit of a challenge on a nice day. The first couple hundred yards are along US Highway 6 and the traffic noise is loud. Once you turn up into the gulch, the noise dies down and we found ourselves looking and pointing up to the sky as paragliders flew overhead. The trail is quite steep, gaining 1,100’ in elevation, and busy with hikers and mountain bikers, so we wouldn’t recommend this trail for families with young kids that are not being carried. We were quite often stepping aside a narrow trail for bikers to pass.
We did really enjoy the workout and the gorgeous views of Golden, Downtown Denver, and North and South Table Mountain. And the access from Denver or Golden couldn’t be better. After your hike, be sure to visit one of the many local breweries from Coors to Mountain Toad!
RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommended For:
- Fall and Winter Hiking.
- Quick day hike.
- Families carrying kids, or with older avid hikers.
- Paragliders were very entertaining to our little ones.
Not Recommended For:
- Hot sunny days; there is little shade.
- Families with preschool or school aged kids who want to walk. The mountain bikers would prove very difficult to avoid on the narrow trail.
Points of Interest:
Paragliders are often flying overhead on this trail.
